Victims of Crime Protocol
What Is the Victim of Crime Protocol?
According to the Victims of Crime Act, the criminal justice system should provide victims with a number of service and procedure expectations in order for victims of crime to be treated fairly and appropriately. A detailed description of the services provided by the Victims of Crime Protocol is provided in this booklet.
- The crime reporting process, police investigation, and court proceedings that a victim can expect through the criminal justice process.
- The National Parole Board and the provincial and federal Corrections Departments can provide support to the victim if the accused is found guilty.
- A victim's responsibilities to the criminal justice system during contact with the system are also outlined in the protocol.
