What Is Abuse
Abuse is a way of controlling the behavior of another person. Power is misused in this way to make victims vulnerable by using intimacy, trust, and dependencies.
Society’s most vulnerable members; those whose conditions, whether temporary or permanent, are due to age, disability, or other factors; include:
- A person in a position of dependence on others or;
- a person in greater risk than the general population of Being harmed by a person in a position of authority or trust relative to them.
Also included are children, adolescents, senior citizens, people with physical, developmental, social, emotional, or other disabilities, as well as those who have been victimized by crime. The vulnerability may be a temporary condition or permanent.
